Community All-Crew Days to Build Community, Beautify Parks

Berkeley, California (Tuesday, October 04, 2016) - Come down to the Berkeley waterfront this Friday for one of the City's "all-crew days" - opportunities for the community to propose parks projects that draw focused effort for staff and volunteers to work on side by side.

The UC Berkeley Triathlon Team who proposed this volunteer effort will work side by side with City staff, the East Bay 510k race organizers, and Berkeley community members of all ages to mulch, paint, rake, weed, sift the sandbox, and clean up along pathways and the shoreline of the City's waterfront. Tractor

Everyone who volunteers to work will receive a light lunch from 12pm-1pm.  Kids and toddlers can their photos taken on the tractor and will receive a will receive a Certificate of Appreciation for joining the fun.

If you propose a work project that's approved by Berkeley's parks' department, staff from landscaping, forestry and maintenance will join you to make it happen.

The community-All Crew Day at the Berkeley waterfront is a part of a broader initiative by the City of Berkeley Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department in which City staff partner with community volunteers and create visible and impactful change on a particular park.

Residents can propose a landscape or maintenance work project at a City-owned facility that can be accomplished in one day. If approved, volunteers are joined by all of the staff of the parks division's three work units: urban forestry, parks facilities maintenance, and landscape maintenance. They join community volunteers to spruce up City parks, landscape medians and or complete another project.  Parks staff review and schedule up to nine approved work projects per year.

Call 510 981-6660 to propose a work project.
