Berkeley, California (Wednesday, September 28, 2016) - The Berkeley Police Department Chief Andrew Greenwood, will be joining concerned community members on a march for safer streets.  The Chief, City Staff and Berkeley Police Officers will meet with all the event attendees in the parking lot of the Sweet Adeline Bakeshop (3350 Adeline Street) at 5:00pm on Thursday, September 29, 2016 and march a short route through South Berkeley neighborhoods.  The march is expected to end no later than 6:30pm.

Area resident and event organizer, Heather Zadig, says the march is intended to, "alert leaders, the media, and criminals alike that there are children literally everywhere in this community, and violence will not be tolerated."  Officers and other city staff will be marching in the event to show solidarity with our residents and community.

This event comes less than a week after the City's second homicide and following two additional shootings in our South Berkeley Neighborhoods.

We hope to you see you there as we come together for a safer community.
