The City of Berkeley Health Officer has ordered all residents to shelter at home, leaving only to receive or provide essential services, starting 12:01 am on Tuesday, March 17. PG&E is reporting a widespread outage affecting thousands of customers in Berkeley and many City buildings, including the Finance Customer Service Center and the Permit Service Center. Call respective City services for further details, or check the PG&E outage page. Power is expected to return by 12:45pm. Traffic lights that are not working should be treated as a four-way stop sign.

CELEBRATE THE BAY AT BERKELEY'S BAY FESTIVAL

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, April 13, 2016) - Come to the Berkeley Marina on Saturday April 16th from 11 am to 4pm for the Berkeley Bay Festival, which showcases activities and environmental education at the Marina and all around the region.

The festival, which was started in 1937 and is organized by the City of Berkeley, celebrates the earth and our Bay and includes free sailboat and dragon boat rides, live music, food, and a mobile freshwater fish exhibit. 

The event takes place on the lawn area of Shorebird Park in front of the Shorebird Park Nature Center, a building noted for its straw bale architecture and its marine conservation and education programs.  A number of environmental education groups will have hands-on exhibits at the event.

The music and entertainment schedule is as follows:

11-11:45 am           Gary Lapow- Children's Music

12-12:45 pm           Street Theater-Circus Arts Dana Smith

1-1:45 pm               Lee Waterman & Jazz Caliente

2-3:45 pm               Rock and Roll oldies by the Back Pages

The East Bay Regional Parks District will also have a mobile fresh water fish exhibit, where you can see the large fish found in the delta and nearby lakes.  You can also see native salt water fish as well as native fresh water fish in large, 200-gallon tanks. New this year are showings of "Steve Shirley, Shark tagger," an 11-minute film about a fisherman who now does research on sharks in the Bay:

11:45am, 12:45am, and 1:45pm, located in the Shorebird Park Nature Center.

There will be food from India Gourmet and Endless Summer Sweets.

The Adventure Playground will be open for children to build with hammers, nails, saws and paint (with parental supervision). The Dragon Boats and Cal Sailing Club will provide a splashing experience in the Bay if you join them for a ride.

The festival is organized by the City's Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department, whose Recreation Division organizes dozens of camps, classes and other activities for people of all ages.
