Berkeley, California (Thursday, March 17, 2016) - Build your career and your community! Join employers, unions, and fellow Berkeleyans at a trade fair to learn how you can start in a new profession earning union wages and work on local projects that affect your community.

The Building & Construction Trades Fair on Tuesday, March 22 aims to get Berkeley residents over the age of 18 years into a variety of trades, from handling large equipment to performing inspections and more.

Careers in the trades have a direct impact for Berkeleyans. In 2015, the Berkeley City Council approved a Community Workforce Agreement that requires contractors to have at least 20% of workers on City infrastructure projects be Berkeley residents.

This year alone, the City has put to bid over $46 million worth of projects, such as City street paving, the sewer system, parks and the construction of the Center Street Garage. Help build Berkeley as you build your own career:

Building & Construction Trades Career Fair

Presentations and programming begin at 5:30 PM.

Less than 2% of Berkeley residents have the training necessary to work on these local projects. This construction trades career fair is an effort by the City of Berkeley to help recruit Berkeley residents for apprenticeships in these fields.

Speak with representatives from various unions and employers about joining a well-paid, benefited trades that are in demand.Some of the Alameda County Building Trades, training programs, and contractors that will be attending the career fair include:

  • Laborers Local 304
  • Sheet Metal Workers
  • Painters/Drywall
  • Glaziers & Floor Covering
  • Operating Engineers Local 3
  • & More!

Jobs in the Building and Construction trades include handling large equipment, performing inspections, surveying, excavating, painting, fabricating and repairing sheet metal elements of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, demolition, pipe installation, and many more.
