Berkeley, California (Monday, April 13, 2015) - As the City of Berkeley begins developing a plan to rebuild Berkeley Tuolumne Camp, the community is invited to attend one of a series of workshops and complete an online survey.

The three-month public process will provide critical input on the camp's future and shape the "draft concept design," which will be submitted to the U.S. Forest Service for environmental and other reviews. The workshops will provide opportunities to see initial concept drawings of the camp, contribute ideas, and gain an understanding of the design and planning processes.

A letter from the U.S. Forest Service, which owns the land the camp has been on, gave the City tentative approval to begin this public process. The letter also outlines issues that will need to be addressed.

The Tuolumne Camp Development Plan Survey will be posted online through May 15, 2015. The public workshop schedule is below:

Berkeley Tuolumne Camp, in operation since 1922, has been a highly regarded summer tradition for generations of Berkeley residents.  More than 4,000 people each year enjoyed the activities and traditions at Tuolumne Camp. On August 25, 2013, the camp was largely destroyed during the Rim Fire - which burned 257,000 acres during one of the largest wildfires in California history. The City created the new Family Camp at Echo Lake, which was created in the summer of 2014, takes the best of Echo Lake and Tuolumne Camps to create a wonderful family camping experience for all ages.  Whether exploring the new programs available at Echo Lake Camp or participating in the upcoming public process, we thank you for keeping the City of Berkeley Camp Spirit alive.  For more information about City of Berkeley Camps, contact:
