Oakland Hills Grassfire Under Control

Berkeley, California (Tuesday, January 21, 2014) - Berkeley residents may see some residual smoke Tuesday in the aftermath of an Oakland hills grassfire that was quickly brought under control.

The two-alarm fire, which was on the west side of Grizzly Peak near Claremont Avenue burned about an acre of brush before being controlled by crews from the Oakland Fire Department, East Bay Regional Parks and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, which is also known as Cal Fire.

Oakland fire officials notified Berkeley of the incident, but did not require assistance. The Berkeley Fire Department sent one engine to monitor the situation.

Due to the dry conditions, all residents are encouraged to maintain fire clearances around their homes by removing dead vegetation and debris from their rooftops and property.
