BPD would like to remind community members of a few crime prevention measures, which may help to reduce your risk as well as discourage those who commit crimes.

  • Use all of your senses to be aware of your surroundings
  • Pay close attention to suspicious persons and activities
  • Walk with determination and alertness
  • iPods, cellular phones, headphones limit your awareness; therefore, do not use them
while walking.  Thieves focus on these items to steal.
  • Limit the valuables that you carry – such as cash, identification, and credit
cards.  Keep them in separate areas in your purse or clothing.
  • If you are the victim of a robbery, immediately call the police.  An immediate report,
including the suspect description, direction of flight, and any associated vehicles,
gives responding officers the best possible chance of locating the suspect(s).

If you have any information regarding these crimes, please contact the BPD Robbery Detail at (510) 981-5742 or the BPD non-emergency number at (510) 981-5900 or from your cellular phone at (510) 981-5911.  If callers wish to remain anonymous they are asked to call the Bay Area Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
