Berkeley, California (Tuesday, December 01, 2009) - The Berkeley Police Department (BPD) is seeking the Community's assistance in identifying two suspects involved in a street robbery and shooting Sunday evening in Southeast Berkeley.

On Sunday, November 29, 2009, at 6:19 PM, an unidentified suspect attempted to rob a 62 year old male pedestrian in the 2700 block of Russell Street.  During the incident, the suspect shot the victim once, striking him in the lower torso.  The suspect ran from the scene, and was possibly driven away from the area in a late model silver "crossover" utility vehicle.

A BPD patrol officer was within three blocks of the incident, heard the shot, and began to investigate.  A witness flagged down the officer and pointed out the victim.  Berkeley Fire Department personnel treated the victim, and transported him to a local hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Thanks to witnesses in the area, investigating officers determined the suspect may have been driven away from the area in a late model silver or light-colored "crossover" utility vehicle, similiar to a Mercedes Benz or BMW.  The suspect vehicle was last seen turning West onto Ashby Avenue from Piedmont Avenue.

The suspects were described as:

1.  Asian male in his late teens to early 20s, 5'5"-5'10", thin to medium build, round face, clean- shaven, short dark hair, a hooded jacket, and baggy pants, armed with a pistol.

2.  An unknown race female, with long dark hair, driving the silver "crossover" utility vehicle.

Berkeley Police are asking for the community's help with this investigation.  Anyone who may have information regarding this crime is urged to call the BPD Homicide Detail at (510) 981-5741, or the BPD non-emergency number at (510) 981-5900.

The Bay Area Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the apprehension of the suspects in this case.  Bay Area Crime Stoppers Tip Line is reachable at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and callers may remain anonymous if they wish.
