City of Berkeley's First Murder of 2007

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, May 30, 2007) - The City of Berkeley is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects responsible for the City’s first homicide of 2007.

On Sunday May 6, 2007 at approximately 6:30am, the Berkeley Police Department (BPD) responded to a report of a man lying in the roadway in the area of Second and Cedar Streets. The intersection of Second and Cedar Streets is located in an industrial section of northwest Berkeley. Officers found the victim, later identified as Agustine Silva, 19, of Antioch, lifeless at the scene. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office determined that Silva died of multiple blunt force injuries. 

Detectives of the BPD Homicide Detail are investigating the matter as a homicide. This is the City of Berkeley’s first murder of 2007. In the year 2006, the City of Berkeley had four (4) homicides.
