Organizations across the City come together to eliminate health inequities

Berkeley, California (Thursday, May 10, 2007) - The grand opening of the New Drop-In Clinic will be held on May 10, 2007  from 4-5 p.m., at 3260 Sacramento Street (at Alcatraz Ave).  There will be information, speakers and program presentations.

The regular hours of the High Blood Pressure Drop-In Clinic will be every Thursday from 2-5 p.m. The clinic provides an opportunity for uninsured Berkeley residents with high blood pressure to receive free primary care by enrolling them into the LifeLong Medical Care system. Clients are being offered follow-up care and medications, as needed.  These services are available at no charge for Berkeley residents regardless of whether or not they have insurance.

The High Blood Pressure Drop-In Clinic was formed by the partner in response to the alarming statistics of heart disease among South and West Berkeley residents compared to other neighborhoods within Berkeley. “This is an amazing partnership between city agencies and residents,” says Dr. Tanya Henneman Moore, Hypertension Projects Coordinator for the City of Berkeley.  “We wanted to provide an accessible location for not only South and West Berkeley residents, but for the entire Berkeley community to improve the overall health.”

For more information and press packet, please contact Tanya Henneman Moore, Hypertension Project Coordinator at (510)-981-5351 and Michelle Irving, Community Health Worker Specialist at (510)-981-7712.
