Berkeley, California (Tuesday, September 05, 2006) - The Berkeley/Albany Mental Health Commission will hold a public hearing on “Mental Health Services and Use Of Police” on Thursday, September 7th, 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., at the City Council Chambers, 2134 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way in Berkeley. The public is invited to share perspectives on the role of police in assisting Mental Health Crisis Intervention services in Berkeley.  Individuals with experience of these issues are encouraged to join us, speak for the record, and help inform decisions about improving services and City policy with this testimony.

Featured speakers include: Sharon Roth, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Criminal Justice Chairperson; Captain Eric Gustafson, Berkeley Police Department; Delphine Brody, California Network of Mental Health Clients; Terry Kalahar, Berkeley Mental Health Case Manager; Francesca Tenenbaum, advocate and involved family member; and Michael Diehl, community organizer for Building Opportunities for Self Sufficiency (BOSS) a local non-profit organization.
