Berkeley, California (Thursday, June 22, 2006) - The City of Berkeley is pleased to announce the exhibit, “From Isolation to Connection,” will be on display at the Addison Street Windows Gallery from June 26 through July 27 of 2006. The participants from Bonita House’s Creative Living Center and the City of Berkeley Mental Health Division created the works as part of the Berkeley Adult School’s offsite art classes. Each student uses various materials from pen and pencil to mixed media that correspond to their particular needs, challenges, and talents.

The art instructor, Arline Rodini, is a licensed psychotherapist with a Masters in Fine Art. She curated the exhibition’s first show at the Berkeley Art Center in 2005. Rodini in partnership with the Center’s Executive Director, Robbin Henderson, published a catalogue of the show. “From Isolation to Connection” has been recently displayed at the National Institute of Arts and Disabilities (NIAD) in Richmond, CA. In April 2006, images of works by individual artists were digitally projected at the De Young Theater in San Francisco in an event for Artists with Disabilities.

“From Isolation to Connection” ultimately reflects the journey of this diverse group of artists to translate their personal expression and ideas into works of art.

The exhibition is wheelchair accessible and is on view 24 hours a day. For more information about the exhibition and the Addison Street Windows Gallery please contact Mary Ann Merker, Civic Arts Coordinator at (510) 981-7533.
