Addison Street Windows Gallery, April 27 - June 19, 2006

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, May 24, 2006) - The City of Berkeley Civic Arts Program, in conjunction with the Berkeley Civic Arts Commission is sponsoring an exhibition of the works of four East Bay figurative artists at the Addison Street Windows Gallery, on Addison Street between Shattuck and Milvia. The exhibition, which opened on April 27 and will show through June 19, includes acrylic paintings from the Whole Story Series by Carol Aust, oil paintings on canvas from the Parenthood Uncensored Series by Biliana Stremska, sculptures from the Undulated Series by Laura Van Duren, and acrylic paintings on commercial carpet from the War Series by Seth Wachtel. The exhibition is on view 24 hours a day, free, and wheelchair accessible.

These four artists, concerned with formal expression in their work and the emotional dimension of being human, use the human figure as a vehicle to address questions about the human condition. While they differ in the specific questions they ask, individually they share the universal states of uncertainty, love, anger, fear and lightness of spirit as subjects of their work. Their art is an expression of their spiritual journey, using color as a medium to convey emotional awareness.

The Addison Street Windows Gallery is a project of the Civic Arts Program of the City of Berkeley in cooperation with the Civic Arts Commission. For information about the Windows Gallery please contact Mary Ann Merker, Civic Arts Coordinator at (510) 981-7533.
