Paintings, Posters & Photography In Honor of the Freight and Salvage Move to the Downtown Arts District

Moved by Tradition, an art exhibition featuring artwork inspired by traditional and folk music is being shown at the Addison Street Windows Gallery from August 25 - September 7, 2009.  This exhibition celebrates new neighbors on Addison Street, the famous Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse. The Freight moves in next door to the Windows Gallery after nearly two years of reconstruction to the Stadium Garage building, and including adding a living green roof. Welcome to the neighborhood!

The Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse, the oldest established full-time folk and traditional music venue west of the Mississippi River, opens their new performance and education facility at 2020 Addison Street in Berkeleys Downtown Arts District on August 27, 2009.  This exhibition is from their collection of art inspired by music presented at the Freight over the last 41 years.  The exhibition can be viewed 24 hours a day from the sidewalk on Addison Street, and it is free and wheelchair accessible.

The show includes original watercolors and oil paintings of musical scenes and musicians by Tracy Grisman. Music posters in the exhibit include commemorative grand opening posters by Hannah Regier.   Stephen Curls sketches of musicians made during Freight & Salvage shows are also included, and photographs of the construction of the new home.
