Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)
Waiting List

THE SECTION 8 WAIT LIST IS CLOSED

The Berkeley Housing Authority is not accepting applications at this time.

We successfully completed a Wait List intake process for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Tenant Based, and Project Based Wait Lists that were opened on March 1-5th, 2010.  During this 5-day period, over 37,000 applications were received. This speaks to the tremendous demand for rental assistance for low-income families in the Bay Area.  1,500 applicants were randomly selected on March 22, 2010 and placed on the Section 8 Tenant Based Voucher Wait List.  An additional 1,500 names were randomly selected and placed on the Section 8 Project Based Voucher Wait List.  Applicants not selected in the random lottery will not move forward in the process.  Letters were mailed in April 2010 to those that were selected in the lottery for both waitlists.

Please remember that your application for this waitlist did not guarantee a spot on the list.  If you need to update your address or phone number, and your application was selected in the lottery, you must submit a written correction to the BHA @ 1936 University Avenue, Suite 150, Berkeley, CA 94704.Click here for form.  If your application was not selected in the lottery you do not need to report the correction.

Local non-profit housing developers have various units set aside for low-income qualifying families and individuals.  You may want to contact to see if there are any waitlists at any of their properties:
