Parking Information Summary University of California affiliates Welcome new and returning Cal students. There are many convenient and inexpensive ways to attend UC Berkeley without needing to own car. For information on alternative transportations programs, please check the City's Commuter Programs page or the University's Transportation Alternatives program. If you do use a car, please review this page for information on the many ways parking operates on City of Berkeley streets. This page contains a brief summary of parking programs, enforcement hours, the citation appeal process, and permit programs. Residential
Parking Permits (RPP)
There are 14 Residential Parking Permit (RPP) areas. These areas are limited to two (2) hour parking unless a residential parking permit is properly displayed on the vehicle. These zones are enforced Monday through Friday with Zones A, B, and E also enforced on Saturdays. If you see signs in your neighborhood displaying any letter of A to N, you live in a Residential Parking Permit area and will need a residential parking permit to park longer than two hours on the street. There are two categories of permits, “Permanent” and “Visitor.” For more information about eligibility and registration for an RPP permit, contact the Customer Service Center at (510) 981-7200 or visit www.cityofberkeley.info/finance/residentialparking.html. Parking on Holidays Parking, at meters or in RPP
zones, is not enforced on certain holidays. Please visit the City’s
website at www.cityof berkeleyinfo.com for specific
holidays and exceptions.
The
City uses single-space and multi-space meters throughout the City.
Meters are enforced Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
unless otherwise posted.
The toll free meter information
hotline is: 1-877-METER-411 Broken Meters – Time Limit
Enforced If you park at an inoperable meter space, please be
aware that all meter time zones, whether the meter is operating correctly
or not, is still restricted to the time posted.
You may receive more than one citation for overstaying your time
limit. Please
be aware that this applies to all time-zoned parking in the City of
Berkeley, not just at parking meters.
JAMMING OR VANDALIZING METERS IS A MISDEMEANOR AND COULD RESULT IN A FINE UP TO $1,000 AND SIX MONTHS IN JAIL.
Electronic
Debit Cards Can Be Used in single space Parking Meters and are available
