Gas Reduction Goals The City has established short and long-term goals for community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions. The emission sources include motor fuels, natural gas and electricity.
In terms of emissions from City sources (the municipal fleet and facilities), the City resolves to strive to reduce its overall production of GHGs to a "net-zero" level. The City is considering participation in the Chicago Climate Exchange, which would contractually obligate the City to reduce emissions from all sources by 1% per year.
The City seeks to make its Greenhouse Gas reduction efforts visible to the community, to encourage others to join us. For example:
