West Berkeley Senior Center 1900 Sixth St
Facilities The center features a large multi-purpose room with a stage, interior outside patio area, library, billiard room, card and game room, classroom, and a full service kitchen. There is a big screen TV and a stereo available. Dining The West Berkeley Senior Center offers a daily hot nutritious lunch to adults age 60 years and older for a $2.75 donation. See the Tri-City Café menu (click here to download Adobe Reader) on this website. We offer a variety of free classes, seminars, and social events for adults age 55 years and older. Weekly courses in ceramics, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and line dancing are available. Each month a professional band plays at dances. Additional activities include Billiards, Bridge, Whist, Dominoes, Pinochle, Scrabble, and Bingo. Weekly exercise classes such as in yoga and body movement are offered. Health Care Free health screenings are offered monthly for blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes. Tests are also conducted for ear, eye, and foot problems. Health professionals provide lecture on medication, stress reduction, nutrition, and social and psychological dimensions of health care. Counselors are also available to assist with income tax, social security benefits, housing, health insurance, and personal therapy. Special Events Special shows, presentations and cultural events are also featured for Black History Month, Cinco de Mayo, Older Adults Month, Birthdays, and Christmas. See the monthly newsletter for more details. Advisory Council The West Berkeley Senior Center has a nine member Advisory Council that is made up of senior participants elected from within the center. These seniors are elected to serve on the council by the seniors participating in the center's programs and activities. The role of the council is to give input and advise staff on the type of center activities and programs that they desire to see implemented.
