North Berkeley Senior CenterThe North Berkeley Senior Center is located at 1901 Hearst Avenue (at Martin Luther King Jr. Way) and is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The center is wheelchair accessible and is also accessible by public transportation. (AC Transit buses to ride to the center are the 15, 43, and 51 lines). Our telephone number is (510) 981-5190 and our fax number is (510) 981-5230.

Classes and Events

The North Berkeley Senior Center offers a variety of classes taught by volunteers, Berkeley Adult School, and Vista College instructors. Most classes are free of charge. There are intergenerational reading and interactive programs on site. The Center offers a variety of trips plus access to discounted or free theater tickets. There are health focused offerings such as exercise classes, support groups, blood pressure readings, and free massages. Computer classes are also available. Please see the computer class schedule on this web site. The Japanese program meets at the Center on the second and fourth Saturdays from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. General Services

The Center provides free van transportation to and from the center, to medical appointments, and grocery shopping for Berkeley residents over 55 years of age. A hot meal is offered at 12:00 noon to those 60 years of age and older for a donation of $2.75. Meals are available Monday through Friday. Facilities

We welcome you to come to the center to read in our library, watch television, play pool, ride exercise bikes, and use our typewriter. The center is the perfect place to socialize and participate in recreational activities. The North Berkeley Senior Center meeting rooms are available to rent on weekends and evenings. Counseling and Referrals

The center staff is able to provide information, referrals, and a free resource guide. Health insurance counseling and income tax help is available. There are bi-monthly programs for those with vision and hearing impairments.

Volunteering

We are always looking for volunteers to help with our meal program, coffee bar, gift shop, teach a class, visit with a friend, or help with the reception desk. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact us at (510) 981-5190. Volunteer Forms are available on line.
