Nurse of the Day Information and Referral Service

What service does the Nurse of the Day offer?
- Free health information service available to the
public through phone calls or drop-in visits. Public health nurses are available every day
to answer questions and give counseling about health problems and provide health education
and teaching on such topics as blood pressure control, diet and nutrition,
HIV/AIDS, sexually
transmitted diseases, tuberculosis and other communicable diseases.
Public Health Nurses are registered nurses who have extra training,
education and certification in public health and community nursing.
- Certain physical assessments such as blood
pressure checks.
- Referrals for public health nursing visits.
- Referrals to medical and dental providers.
- Assistance and referrals for medical and dental insurance.
- Resource information about community
programs and services such as emergency food programs, support groups, mental health
resources, and drug and alcohol programs. In addition to providing referrals, the nurses
will assist clients in contacting other health and social service agencies and accessing
needed services.
