Summer Food Service Program
Berkeley, California (Tuesday, April 18, 2006) - The California Department of Education Summer Food Program provides free meals to children 18 and under at nine locations in the City of Berkeley. The nine sites are supervised by the Department of Parks Recreation & Waterfront. Since school meals are not available during the summer vacation, children can rely on the Summer Food program to provide nutritious food that will assist our children to learn about a well-balanced meal and help them grow to their full potential. All of the City of Berkeley Summer Food sites also offer recreational activities. This is a great way for kids to have fun with their friends in a safe environment when they are not in school.
The program is open to all children 18 and under. No registration is required. Children can arrive at the site during the time meals are being served and enjoy good company and a delicious meal. Lunches and snacks will be served Monday through Friday, lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and snacks from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the following Berkeley sites:
