Welcome to the Parks Recreation & Waterfront site at the City of Berkeley, CA.

Our goal is to provide quality parks, recreation and waterfront facilities.  The department is committed to administering excellent recreation programs at our community centers, camps, marina and parks; continuing to develop new programs that fulfill the City's 2020 Vision, maintaining our trees and municipal urban forest, landscaping and infrastructure; and developing Capital Projects with community input to improve and enhance resident's park and facility experience.

Closure of the Berkeley Municipal Pier - Effective July 22, 2015, the Berkeley Municipal Fishing Pier was closed to the public because of considerable structural damage to the concrete decking and support system.  Click here for further information. [more...]

Terrace View Park--Temporary Closure - Portions of Terrace View Park is currently under construction which includes renovating and modernizing the Park’s facilities.  We anticipate reopening the Park in late Fall.  For your safety, please do not enter the park during the construction period.  Entering the park will put you at risk of injury or cause delays to the completion of the project.  We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to a successful project.  [more...]

Virginia-McGee Tot Land --Temporary Closure - The park is currently under construction to upgrade drainage, irrigation, the large play area, pathways, turf and ADA access considerations.  A partial opening is anticipated in mid September and full opening in mid-October.  [more...]

Drought Response - It is dry. With California facing its fourth year of severe drought, Berkeley is working to conserve water. In response to Governor Brown's first-in-state-history mandate for cuts in potable urban water use statewide, the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) set a goal to reduce water use by 20% district-wide compared to 2013. Conserving water and using it more efficiently helps mitigate the growing stress on the state's water resources.  [more...]

Berkeley Tuolumne Camp (BTC) Update - On August 25, 2013, BTC was largely destroyed during the Rim Fire.  In order to rebuild BTC, the City and the United States Forest Service (USFS) need public feedback.  Over the next three months the City of Berkeley in collaboration with the United States Forest Service (USFS) will be undertaking a public process that will help shape the Berkeley Tuolumne Camp Master Development Plan.  This public process will consist of four Public Meetings and a series of presentations the first week of Echo Lake High Sierra Camp.
