The artworks were selected through a juried process. Over 500 images were viewed by a preliminary panel consisting of Archana Horsting, Executive Director of Kala Institute; Jill Berk Jiminez, Executive Director of the Berkeley Art Center; and Mary Ann Merker, Civic Arts Coordinator.

That group narrowed the initial 500 images to a group of about 100 images that were presented to an in-house advisory panel representing the City Manager’s Office, Mayor’s Office, City Attorney’s Office, City Architect, the Curator for the Addison Street Window Exhibits, and the Civic Arts Commission. The panel selected 38 artworks of artists who either live or work in Berkeley. The mediums for the artworks range from works on paper to mixed media and sculpture. To support the individual artists efforts, a cash per-diem was awarded to each selected artist.

The Berkeley Civic Center Art Exhibition 2007-2008 is a public art project of the Berkeley Civic Arts Commission in collaboration with Berkeley Art Center and the Kala Art Institute. The Civic Center Art Exhibition 2007-2008 celebrates the diversity and richness of the visual arts within Berkeley.  For more information about this exhibition, please contact Mary Ann Merker, Civic Arts Coordinator at (510) 981-7533 or mmerker@ci.berkeley.ca.us
