Berkeley,
California (Tuesday, November 13, 2007) – Photographs
focusing on the experience of aging will be exhibited at the 1947
Center Street Lobby Gallery. The
artwork will be on view Wednesday, November 14, 2007 through Friday,
February 15, 2008.
These photographs, taken by Alexander Hauptman, M.D. are drawn from
an archive of over 40 years of taking pictures. Hauptman says his
own approach to aging, "the losses of my elderly parents,
friends, and my professional work as a physician/psychiatrist direct
his yearning to focus on aging.”
This
series contains moments culled from a varied repertoire of
photographs taken over decades. Hauptman started taking pictures in
the 1960 's with early work oriented toward photojournalism, when he
was a participant/observer of the great events of that era. After a
period of landscape photography, the interest that brought Hauptman
into medicine and psychiatry, unfolded into a greater interest in
photographing people. The
printing was done in his home studio using a state of the art
44" wide inkjet printer. Most of the photographs were taken
with traditional film camera and digitally printed.
