ADVISORY: Berkeley Activates EOC for Pandemic Flu Drill

Emergency Operation Center exercise will help test City’s ability to work with university, school district and hospitals to respond to pandemic flu emergency

Berkeley, California (Monday, October 22, 2007) – As part of a statewide effort to prepare for an infectious disease emergency, Berkeley will activate the Emergency Operations Center and exercise City decision-making and communication functions. The facility cannot accommodate media observers, but key personnel from several agencies will participate in a press conference immediately following the exercise.

WHAT: Media conference immediately following EOC Pan Flu Exercise

WHO: City Manager Phil Kamlarz and Public Health Officer Dr. Linda Rudolph, M.D. to speak.

Available for questions will be:

·       Berkeley Police Chief Doug Hambleton;

·       Berkeley Fire Chief Debra Pryor;

·       Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal Gil Dong

·       Representatives of other governmental and health agencies

WHEN: Thursday, October 25, 2007 at noon 

WHERE: Front steps of the Public Safety Building

WHY: To share with the media and the public the lessons of the EOC activation and the importance of personal preparedness for a pandemic flu.

As part of the same awareness effort, Dr. Rudolph will give the City Council a workshop on pandemic flu preparedness. This workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 6:30 p.m.
