Berkeley,
California (Day, Date, 2007) - Berkeley artists are invited to apply for the juried Civic Center Art
Show for 2007-2008. Approximately 30 Berkeley artists will be chosen
to have their work shown on all five floors of the Martin Luther
King, Jr. Civic Center., and a cash stipend will be given to each
accepted artist.
The “Call for Artists” will be mailed to artists on the Civic Arts
Program mailing list and will be available for pickup at the
Berkeley Public Library, Senior Centers, the Berkeley Art Center and
at the Kala Art Institute starting on Monday, July 9, 2007. It can
also be found on the City of Berkeley web site at the address below.
The artworks will be selected through a juried process. Over 500 slide
entries were viewed for the last show. Jurors for this year’s show
will include the Executive Director of the Berkeley Art Center, the
Executive Director of Kala Art Institute, and an in-house advisery
panel representing the City Manager’s Office, the Mayor’s
Office, the Department Directors, City staff and the Civic Arts
Commission. The mediums for the artworks will range from works on
paper to mixed media and sculpture.
The Berkeley Civic Center Art Exhibition 2007-2008 is a public art
project of the Berkeley Civic Arts Commission in collaboration with
Berkeley Art Center and Kala Art Institute. The Civic Center Art
Exhibition 2007-2008 celebrates the diversity and richness of the
visual arts within Berkeley.
There will be a Curators’ Statement, a List of Works and Artists, and
photos of the artwork will be available for viewing on the Civic
Arts website. A reception for the artists and their friends and
family will also take place.
