Berkeley,
California (Wednesday, December 29, 1999) – Make it your new
year's resolution to be prepared! Berkeley's Office of Emergency
Services announces a new series of free Community Emergency
Response Training (CERT) classes. These classes give basic,
practical information, including hands-on training in fire
suppression, light search and rescue, and disaster first aid. The
Office of Emergency Services also offers classes in basic personal
preparedness (how to take care of yourself, family, home and
neighborhood), and disaster mental health (learn about
disaster-related emotional reactions).
All classes are held at the Fire Department's Emergency
Operations Center, 997 Cedar Street, Berkeley. The classes are open
to everyone, 18 or older, who lives or works in Berkeley. Here's the
new schedule:
Basic Personal Preparedness - Saturday, March 11, 9am-11am
Disaster Mental Health - Saturday, February 12, 9am-12pm
Disaster First Aid -Saturdays, February 19, March 18, April 15,
9am-12pm
Light Search & Rescue - Saturdays, February 26, March 25,
April 22, 9am-12pm
Fire Suppression - Saturdays, March 4, April 1, April 29,
9am-12pm
281 Berkeley residents participated in CERT training in 1999. Be
