One
hundred and eighty-five Berkeley students were
honored at the Mayor's
Tenth Annual Student Awards
Recognition Ceremony held at the
DoubleTree Hotel at
the Berkeley Marina.

Mayor
Tom Bates, Berkeley City Council Members,
Berkeley Unified School
District Officials, parents and
teachers presented the awards to 185
Berkeley High
School Berkeley Alternative High School and
Independent
Study students with awards.

“I
am proud to continue the tradition of honoring
Berkeley students for
their leadership, citizenship, and
perseverance,” said Mayor Bates.
“Every one of these
students has impressed a teacher with
their
determination and effort and I look forward to giving
them the
recognition they deserve.”

Debra
Pryor, the first woman and first African-American
to serve as
Berkeley’s fire chief, gave and inspirational
keynote address and
Berkeley High's Jazz Ensemble
provided entertainment.

Students were presented
awards for their
accomplishment in the areas of citizenship,
leadership,
sports, extraordinary effort, arts, communications, and
community service.
