Mayor Tom Bates

Mayor Bates was elected in November 2002 and
re-elected in 2006. He also serves on the Metropolitan
Transportation Commission (MTC), the Bay
Area Air Quality Management District, the San
Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission and is the Past-President of the Alameda County Conference of Mayors. (Full

Julie Sinai, Chief of Staff to the Mayor

Julie Sinai helps direct the Mayor’s work on
education, family services, health issues and the University of California at
Berkeley.
Calvin Fong, Senior Aide to the Mayor

Calvin Fong is the person to call if you need
assistance with city services or any other constituent request. In
addition, he works with the Mayor on transportation, development and
housing issues.
Nils Moe, Assistant to the Mayor

Nils Moe works on environmental issues, including
energy initiatives and climate policy.
Sbeydeh Viveros-Banderas, Assistant to the
Mayor/ Scheduler

Sbeydeh is the office manager and handles
the Mayor's schedule. She also runs the Intern program and handles
many constituent services.
Interns
The Mayor's office benefits from the services of
dedicated interns and volunteers. Duties include planning events, creating materials,
research, community outreach, answering phones and working with
