“Weldon is a remarkable public servant who has served the people
of Berkeley with a dedication and skill for more than 30 years.
“The entire Berkeley community will miss
his talent, intelligence, and deep appreciation for what makes Berkeley
such a special place. In the
nine months since taking office, I have seen his remarkable skills put to
use time and time again – from his outstanding work to balance our city
budget to his selection of our new police chief. “Berkeley is a better place because of
Weldon’s work. Without
question, his successor will have very large shoes to fill.
On behalf of the entire City Council, I want to express our
heartfelt thanks for his years of dedicated service to this City and its
people. We wish him all the
best in his retirement.
“Moving forward, I will work closely with the Council, city
staff, and the community to ensure Berkeley government runs smoothly
during this transition and as we begin the process of hiring our new City
