Berkeley
to Receive ‘Global Citizen Award’ from UN Association of East Bay
Berkeley,
CA – On Wednesday evening, the United Nations Association East Bay
Chapter will present a “Global Citizen Award” to the City of Berkeley
and Mayor Tom Bates for the City’s innovative and aggressive efforts to
address the climate crisis and other UN Millennium Goals.
The award will be presented during their gala reception and banquet
in celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the United Nations. “I am
honored to receive the UN Association’s Global Citizen Award on behalf
Berkeley’s pioneering efforts to combat climate change and address its
impacts on humanity,” said Mayor Tom Bates.
“We are very fortunate to have such an active and effective local
United Nations Association doing this great work in our community and
around the world.”
This year’s event theme is “water for life” and is focused on
the link between water and climate change, the need to combat world
hunger, and the UN Millennium Development Goals.

device; a group of UC Berkeley students for their “Shuar” water and

and programs are increasingly aligned with the United Nations' Millennium
