Mayor Bates will thank volunteers at Noon near the Seabreeze Market
at the corner of University Ave. and Frontage Rd. Berkeley, CA – Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates will thank volunteers at the 21st annual Coastal Clean-up on Saturday, September 16th. Volunteers will start at 9 a.m. near the Seabreeze Market at the corner of University Avenue and Frontage Road before heading out to seven different Berkeley sites to clean the shoreline. Last year, 50,000 people picked up over 750,000 pounds of trash at sites throughout coastal California. In Berkeley, most of the collected trash is actually carried downstream to the shoreline through creeks and storm drains. “This
is a wonderful opportunity for the community to join in protecting our
environment,” said Mayor Tom Bates, who led the successful effort to
create the East Bay Shoreline State Park while in the legislature.
“Not only does this help clean up the trash, but it also gives
people a chance to see and enjoy the wonderful shoreline and learn about
our ecosystem.” WHO:
