MEDIA ADVISORYMay 12, 2006 Mayor Bates Proclaims ‘Wavy Gravy Week’ in Honor of
Wavy’s 70th Birthday Wavy Gravy,
the “activist clown and former frozen dessert” will be honored during
his 70th birthday bash and fundraiser for the Seva Foundation. Berkeley,
CA – Wavy Gravy, the Berkeley hero sometimes referred to as “the
illegitimate son of Harpo Marx and Mother Teresa,” will celebrate his 70th
birthday with a blow-out celebration to raise money for his Seva
Foundation at the Berkeley Community Theater on Saturday, May 20th.
(His actual birthday falls on Monday, May 15th.) In
honor of Wavy’s birthday, Mayor Tom Bates is naming the week of May 14th
to the 20th as “Wavy Gravy Week” in the City of Berkeley.
The proclamation is in honor of his incredible contribution to the
Berkeley community and the world through his work with the Seva
Foundation, Camp Winnarainbow, and many other worthy causes. “Wavy
embodies the very spirit of Berkeley.
He’s caring, funny, offbeat, and absolutely dedicated to making
the world a better place,” said Mayor Tom Bates. “Naming a single day
after Wavy was nowhere near sufficient, so we are naming the entire week
after him.” Mayor
Bates plans to officially proclaim Wavy Week during the May 20th
event. Performing in honor of
Wavy’s birthday are Bob Weir
& Rat Dog, Mickey Hart & Friends, Steve Earle, Gillian Welch,
David Lindley and Linda Tillery. More information on the Seva Foundation and the birthday bash are available at www.seva.org. The full proclamation text follows. IN
HONOR OF WAVY GRAVY ON HIS 70TH BIRTHDAY WHEREAS,

Wavy
Gravy co-founded the Seva Foundation, which provides more than 80,000 eye
