Berkeley Homes on Saturday Berkeley is
taking disaster preparedness to the streets on Saturday, May 6th
at 10 a.m. Volunteers will deliver disaster information to 20,000
households. Berkeley
firefighters will grill lunch for volunteers. Berkeley, CA
– In a major effort to increase disaster preparedness among Berkeley
residents, over 200 volunteers have signed up to deliver information
door-to-door to 20,000 households primarily in south and west Berkeley.
The doorhanger
includes information on disaster kits, a magnet with disaster information,
and a card to send away from more information and to sign up for disaster
preparation classes. Volunteers
will return for a free lunch grilled by Berkeley firefighters and disaster
preparedness gifts. “In true
Berkeley fashion, we are taking disaster preparedness to the streets. We know a major earthquake will stretch our emergency
services,” said Mayor Bates. “We
are working to make sure all our residents are prepared to take care of
themselves and look after their neighbors in a disaster. WHO:
