Top Officials from All Major Berkeley
Institutions to Meet on Disaster Preparations Senior state, county, and city emergency services officials will meet with and brief senior officials from UC Berkeley, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Alta Bates Hospital, and others on Thursday morning. Berkeley,
CA – Top officials from every major institution in the City of Berkeley
will meet for the first time on the morning of Thursday, March 23rd
to discuss coordination and communication plans in the event of a major
disaster. Top emergency
services officials from the State of California and Alameda County will
brief the officials. “Hurricane
Katrina was a wake up call for all of us.
In the event of a major regional disaster like an earthquake, we
need to make sure that Berkeley is ready and able to take care of itself
for up to a week before outside help arrives,” said Berkeley Mayor Tom
Bates. “That effort starts with clear lines of communication and
plans for coordination among all the major institutions in the City.” Attendees
