TO SPONSOR VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION Mayor Tom Bates announces Veterans Day
Celebration set for November 11, 2005
Berkeley, CA – Concluding a meeting of the Berkeley Veterans Day Committee, Mayor Tom Bates announced that the Veterans Day Celebration is set for November 11, 2005. The keynote speaker, Michael Blecker, executive director of Swords to Ploughshares and US Army Vietnam veteran, will address the issues facing veterans in accessing benefits. Representatives from the Veterans
Administration will be invited to provide information and help veterans
access their benefits. Country
Joe McDonald will emcee the program that will include Mayor Bates, Council
Member Dona Spring, local Berkeley WWII veteran, David Gan, and Gold Star
Families for Peace representative, Bill Mitchell. “This will be an event that
honors those who have served our country, from the World Wars through the
current war in Iraq," said Mayor Tom Bates. Who:
