Berkeley
to Welcome Romare Bearden Mural Back to Council Chambers After National
Tour
Renowned
mural returns after two years on tour as a centerpiece of the National
Gallery of Art’s retrospective on the works of Romare Bearden. Berkeley, CA – Top city
officials and members of the arts community will officially welcome
Berkeley’s famous Romare Bearden mural back to the City on Friday
afternoon. The mural –
which is entitled “Berkeley – The City and Its People, 1973” – has
been re-installed in City Council Chambers. The mural was a featured
part of the National Gallery of Art retrospective on Romare Bearden’s
work. Following the display
at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, the mural toured through
San Francisco, Dallas, Atlanta, and New York City before returning to
Berkeley. “The Bearden mural is
an extraordinary piece of art and a wonderful part of Berkeley’s
history,” said Mayor Tom Bates. “I
am very proud to welcome it back.” You can see a photo of
