MAYOR BATES TO RECOGNIZE 131 STUDENTS FOR EXEMPLARY PERFORMANCE

Mayor Tom Bates to continue tradition of recognizing high school students with May 26th event at the DoubleTree Hotel Berkeley Marina.

Berkeley, CA – Continuing a Berkeley tradition, Mayor Tom Bates will present “Mayor’s 9th Annual Student Recognition Awards” to Berkeley public school students at a ceremony on Thursday, May 26, 2005.

With Berkeley City Council Members, Berkeley Unified School District Officials, parents, and teachers joining him, Mayor Bates will present 131 Berkeley High School and Berkeley Alternative High School students with awards.  The students were nominated by their teachers in one of seven categories – citizenship, leadership, sports, extraordinary effort, arts, communications, and community service.

“I am proud to continue the tradition of honoring Berkeley students for their leadership, citizenship, and perseverance,” said Mayor Bates.  “Every one of these students has impressed a teacher with their determination and effort and I look forward to giving them the recognition they deserve.”
