BATES TO KICK-OFF 24 HOUR SWIM TO KEEP PUBLIC POOL OPEN
Over 72
swimmers from the Berkeley community will participate in the swimming
relay to raise money to keep Berkeley’s West Campus pool open during the
winter. Mayor Bates will kick
off the swim at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 2nd. Berkeley, CA –
After budget cuts forced the City to schedule Berkeley’s West
Campus swimming pool for a temporary closure, the United Pool Council
organized this weekend’s swim-a-thon to raise enough money to keep it
open to the public. Over 72
swimmers from the Berkeley community have signed up to participate and
raise money. This is the
second year in a row that the Pool Council has organized such a swim. Mayor Tom Bates will give the
official countdown to start the West Berkeley 24-hour swim-a-thon this
Saturday. Acting Director of Parks Recreation and Waterfront Marc
Seleznow will be among the first swimmers. WHO: Mayor
