MAYOR BATES TO HELP LAUNCH CAR SHARING 'POD' AT ASHBY BART Mayor Bates to arrive at Ashby BART in new City CarShare hybrid Honda. He will announce Berkeley's plan to replace city-owned vehicles with CarShare vehicles. Berkeley,
CA – Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates will roll into the Ashby BART parking lot
in a brand new City CarShare Honda Civic hybrid to inaugurate the new
CarShare location at the station. He
will be joined by officials from BART and City CarShare. The
Ashby BART station “pod” is the thirteenth City CarShare location in
Alameda County and is part of over 70 locations throughout the Bay Area.
CarShare has 2,600 members in the Bay Area. The
City is finalizing a contract with CarShare to replace many of our
city-owned vehicles with CarShare vehicles located in downtown Berkeley.
Those vehicles would be available to the public during
evenings and weekends. “Berkeley is a national
leader in finding innovative ways to reduce the use of cars.
In fact, our residents use public transit at four times the
national average,” said Mayor Bates.
“For that reason, we have supported City CarShare since its birth
in Berkeley and are excited about their growing presence in this
community.” WHAT:
