TOM BATES TO GO HOMELESS ON MARCH 19th Berkeley, CA – In an effort to learn first hand about the challenges facing the homeless community and the services available to them, Mayor Tom Bates will spend the night of March 19th homeless on the streets of Berkeley. During the 24 hours he will spend homeless, the Mayor will visit shelters and other homeless facilities throughout the city. “We face a homeless crisis in Berkeley and throughout the country,” said Mayor Bates. “I need to learn first hand about the challenges facing our homeless community so that I can do everything I can help people get off the streets.” Homeless night is being
organized by members of Berkeley’s homeless service community. WHAT:
Mayor Tom Bates will join members of the homeless community and go
homeless for 24 hours. WHEN:
The Mayor will begin at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, March 19th
at MASC (Veterans Building basement, 1931 Center Street). He will then
tour shelters and other facilities, spending time to learn about each
facility and to meet with people at each location.
After spending the night on the streets, the Mayor will have
breakfast at the Trinity Methodist Church (2362 Bancroft Way) at 8:00 am.
He will spend the rest of the day completing his tour of local homeless
