HOUSEWARMING FOR FORMERLY HOMELESS WOMAN WHO BOUGHT BERKELEY CONDO WITH HELP FROM CITY, LOCAL NON-PROFITS Mayor Tom Bates, Congresswoman Barbara Lee and other top officials to welcome Jill Dunner into her new condominium in Berkeley. Purchase of home was made possible through Section 8 Homeownership program. Berkeley, CA - Mayor Tom Bates, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, and other top officials from non-profit and business organizations will welcome Jill Dunner into her new home on Friday, February 13th. Ms. Dunner, who spent time homeless and in shelters, was able to buy the new home with assistance from local non-profits and the City of Berkeley's Housing Authority. The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Initiative, offered by the Berkeley Public Housing Authority, allows eligible low-income working families to use their U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 8 rental assistance vouchers to make monthly mortgage payments. Ms. Dunner also worked with Bay Area HOPE (Home Ownership Programs for Everyone) to leverage a combination of other unique housing resources to significantly reduce the purchase costs of her condominium which was developed by the Northern California Land Trust. “I am very proud that the City of Berkeley was able to partner with these wonderful community organizations to help Jill Dunner buy her first home,” said Mayor Bates. “As housing prices continue to rise, we will need to do everything we can to help more people to follow in Jill’s footsteps.” WHO:
