FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE MAYOR TOM BATES APPOINTED TO BAY AREA CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION Berkeley, CA –
Mayor Tom Bates today announced his appointment to the Bay Area
Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC).
The Commission, which was created by the Legislature in 1965, is
charged with protecting the Bay and regulating development along its
shores. Bates, who will attend his first
BCDC meeting on February 6th, brings to the Commission a three
decade long record of environmental protection and leadership.
While in the Assembly, Bates wrote the legislation creating the
East Bay Shoreline State Park and consistently received a 100%
pro-environment voting score. “I am honored to take a seat on
the BCDC. The Commission has
been a champion for environmental protection and sustainable development
for nearly 40 years,” said Mayor Bates. The Association of Bay Area
Governments (ABAG) appointed Bates to the Commission by unanimous vote at
their January 16th Executive Board meeting. Tom Bates was elected Mayor
of Berkeley in November 2002. Previously,
he served for four years as an Alameda County Supervisor and for 20 years
as a member of the State Assembly. # # # |
