Fall/Summer JOB OPENINGS
ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND RECREATION ACTIVITY LEADER

We are looking for hard working people who love interacting with children of all ages in an extraordinary outdoor environment. Must be eager to help them learn to work with their imagination and a variety of tools (hammers, nails, saws, and paint) in a safe, resourceful and creative way. Sharp eyes and a willingness to take the initiative are required to help ensure safety on site. Positive communication is necessary when interacting with children and adults.  The Adventure Playground is located at the beautiful Berkeley Marina.  Part-time (weekends and some mid week)   $15.17/hour.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must be at least 18 years of age.   Must have at least two years of progressively responsible experience in recreation, education, child development or related field.  One year of college education can be substituted for one year of work experience.  First Aid knowledge is mandatory.                                                                                                                                                               

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Facilitates interactions between groups, group leaders, individual children and parents in building and playing together safely. 
  2. Teaches safe use of tools and equipment.  Encourages children and adults to help maintain grounds and facility.  Sets positive example while ensuring the safety of the site.
  3. Opportunity to assist in training paid staff and volunteers.
  4. Reports repairs and projects as needed verbally and in writing. Maintains time sheets, related records and submits reports as directed.
  5. Attends all staff meetings.  Performs all related work as required.
  6. Necessary to do heavy lifting, shoveling, demolition and building.
  7. Helps plan, promote, organize, and direct fishing, creative building, special activities and special events (SHORELINE CLEANUPS) at the Playground and other sites in the Marina.   

DESIRED SKILLS:   
Experience with carpentry or general construction work with hand tools.
Experience with outdoor education and fishing.
Creative ability to gather needed scrap materials for the Playground.
Experience working with people with disabilities.
Bilingual
