Parking Tickets
Pressed for time? Want to avoid
having to pay penalties on your parking citation? Dont know much you
owe on your parking citation? Want to eliminate having to write a check?
You can pay your citation at
any hour by visiting the Online Service Center
and using your MasterCard or VISA. You can
also look up information on your parking citations. All
you need is the citation number that was issued against your vehicle.
A
typical online payment takes only a few minutes to complete and allows you
to pay one or more parking citations in a single transaction. A $2.00 transaction fee is charged per
transaction for
online payments. You may also
pay citations at the Finance Customer Service Center,
where we're open for phone and counter transactions Monday through Friday,
9:00am to 4:30pm.

To Contest a Parking Citation
Citations
must be contested within 21 calendar days after issuance. You need
to send a letter of explanation or complete a Request
Administrative Review Form (also available at the Customer Service
Center) plus any supporting evidence, documents or witness statements and
bring it to the Finance Customer Service Center at 1947 Center Street. After 21 calendar
days contesting rights are waived. You must contest ticket in
writing before a hearing can be requested. The mailing address for

To Contest a Meter Citation
Citations
must be contested within 21 calendar days after issuance. You need
to send a letter or complete a Parking
Meter Check Form explaining the problem with the meter and bring
it into the Finance Customer Service Center at 1947 Center Street. After 21 calendar days,
contesting rights are waived.
Hearings
An administrative hearing must be requested in person or by mail within 21 calendar days of
your administrative review notice, or the penalty will be increased and you
will not have another opportunity to be heard. All requests for
hearings must include a statement and evidence contesting the citation,
and a check for the deposit in the amount of the citation, payable to
the City of Berkeley.

Requests not accompanied by evidence and the deposit payment will be
denied.
You must pay the full amount due as
deposit prior to your hearing.
If you are unable to pay the full amount due, and can prove
financial hardship, you may request an exemption from payment of the
deposit by obtaining a "Deposit Waiver Application" from the Finance
Customer
Service Center, 1947 Center Street.
Correctable Citations
Registration
(5204), Missing License Plates (5200), Missing Tabs (5204) Citations must
be cleared within 30 calendar days of issuance. You must have the citation
or notice signed off by any police officer, then forwarded to this office
with $10 payment. If you can not take care of the citation in 30
days, you may request an extension. NOTE: Extension up to lien date
only.
