Council Member Gordon Wozniak's
Biography
Gordon Wozniak was elected to Berkeley's City Council
in December 2002.
During his four years in office, he has focused on reducing property crime,
increasing citizen participation, as well as improving municipal services,
traffic problems and environmental hazards.
In addition to his work on Council, Gordon represents Berkeley for several
regional groups including: the National League of cities, ABAG, Oakland
Airport-Community Noise Management Forum, and the Hills Emergency Forum,
which focuses on fire safety and cross-city collaboration.
He also serves on the City of Berkeley's Joint Task Force Committee on
Housing, the Agenda Committee, and City Partners, a work group bringing
together the City, UC Berkeley, fraternities and sororities, and neighbors
to discuss issues of mutual concern.
Gordon's roots with Berkeley run deep, starting out as a graduate of U.C.
Berkeley in 1966, and continuing as a resident of District 8 for over 30
years. Along with his experience as research scientist at Lawrence Berkeley
National Laboratory, Gordon worked on city problems serving as a
commissioner on the Planning Commission, the Parks and Recreation Commission
and the Environmental Commission. He also has been a board member of the
Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
Originally from Dubuque, Iowa, Gordon moved to Berkeley in 1966 to attend
graduate school, where he met his wife Evie.
