North
Shattuck Safeway Safeway Stores has
publicly announced their intention to demolish and rebuild their store at
1444 Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley. This
project presents an opportunity for Safeway to address some of the lingering
issues around the existing store, and for the community to welcome a modern
and accessible full service grocery store, one that we hope will be an
attractive amenity for the North Shattuck business area. On May 31, 2007, I
co-hosted a community forum where Safeway representatives solicited
questions, suggestions and observations from store neighbors and shoppers.
This brainstorming session was the first step in an initial community
process designed to solicit comments from the community before the creation
and presentation of a specific design.
