Preliminary Matters
Roll Call: 1:35 p.m.
Present: Councilmembers Hawley, Maio, Olds, Spring, Worthington, Wozniak, and Mayor Bates.
Absent: Councilmembers Breland and Shirek.
Public Comment: No speakers.
Closed Session
The City Council recessed to closed session to discuss the following matter:
CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL –ANTICIPATED LITIGATION PURSUANT TO GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 54956.9: Initiation of litigation (one case) The Berkeley City Council will consider whether to initiate or join litigation challenging the reduction of the vehicle license fee by the Governor and State of California, including the failure to replace vehicle license fee funds that have been lost to local governments as a result.
Action: Moved, seconded, carried (Maio/Worthington; Absent –Breland, Shirek) to give authorization to the City Attorney to join in a lawsuit if filed by other cities and counties to require the State to provide funding lost as a result of vehicle license fee revenue reductions to the cities.
