Berkeley Climate Action Kick-Off Draws 170 People
Over 170 people came out on Saturday, May 19th to kick-off off our community-wide effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and sign a pledge to reduce their own emissions by 10% this year and 2% every year after that. On
May 19th, over 170 people came out to help build a movement to reduce our
greenhouse gas emissions. The event focused on providing useful information on
how to reduce your emissions and explaining how we will work to implement
Measure G. Now, we need more
of your ideas. Many
filled out policy idea/suggestion forms on the back of your Climate Action
Pledge. We will be reviewing
all of those ideas, providing them to workshop participants, and posting
them on the Measure G website. But
we want more of feedback, creativity, and ideas. First,
send us more ideas for policies or actions to measureg@ci.berkeley.ca.us.
What can the city or its climate partners do to help the community
reduce its emissions? What
tips or ideas do you have for people to reduce their own emissions?
We will be posting all ideas on our Measure G website and providing
them to people at upcoming workshops. Second,
let us know where we can go to get the word out about the Measure G
planning process and the Berkeley Climate Action Pledge.
Neighborhood meetings, schools fairs, you name it.
We want to get the word out and get people involved.
Finally,
be sure to attend the series of climate action workshops we have planned
starting in June. The schedule for these events is on our website.
The purpose of the workshops is to provide opportunities for the community
to share ideas regarding existing and potential GHG emission reduction
strategies that will get us to our target. We need to hear from you. Once
again, our email us measureg@ci.berkeley.ca.us.
Soon we will have a more interactive website up that allows for
direct posting of ideas, a Berkeley carbon calculator, and more.
