Weekend Fires in South Berkeley Likely Arson - On Saturday, June 27, 2009, at approximately 5:17 p.m. the Berkeley Police Dispatch began receiving calls about a house fire on the 1700 block of Woolsey Street.  A few minutes later an officer at the scene reported the house was fully engulfed in flames.  The Fire Department responded and began putting the fire out. Police Prepare for DUI Checkpoint - The City of Berkeley Police Department (BPD) will be conducting a Driving Under the Influence/Drivers License checkpoint on Friday, June 26, 2009.  The checkpoint will occur during the evening hours on Telegraph Avenue at Stuart Street in Southeast Berkeley.  This effort will be part of the Alameda countywide program: Avoid the 21.  [more...]

Wanted - Homicides in West Berkeley & North Oakland - Rafael Campbell, 24, of Oakland (pictured below) is still wanted in connection with the May 16, 2009 murder of Charles Davis, 25, of Berkeley at Allston Way and Tenth Street in West Berkeley. He is also wanted for the subsequent car crash that took the lives of Todd Perea, 27, of Brentwood, and Floyd Ross, 41, of Berkeley. Campbell should be considered armed and very dangerous. [more...]

South Berkeley Shooting Injures Two - Two children were injured this morning when the home they were sleeping in was struck by gunfire. The children, girls ages 3 and 6 years old, are being treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital. [more...]

NEW Assignment List for Beat Officers - Berkeley Police Department assigns an officer to a specific beat during a 10 hour shift.  Each officer is assigned to a specific beat and is responsible for their area. They are in constant communication with other divisions in the department about crime trends and in turn work closely to reduce crime and promote community safety.  [more...]

$47,000 Reward Offered In Berkeley Homicides - The City of Berkeley is offering a $45,000 reward, and Bay Area Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $2,000 reward, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for the deaths of three men in Berkeley and North Oakland. 9-1-1 For Kids - The Berkeley Police Department Communication Center Dispatchers are proud to present a program with national participation in schools.  We are excited to be able to offer it to the youth community of our city. The concept of the 911 for Kids program was developed in 1991 with the goal of creating a curriculum to appeal to the 4 to 7 year old age group.
